Long Distance Paths

RA Southampton Group, part of The Ramblers' Association, a company limited by guarantee, registration no. 4458492. Registered Charity No. 1093577.

Important
To arrange the long distance path series requires much effort by the leaders and by the secretaries in booking coaches , collecting booking forms  etc.  Please help by following the booking information in the newsletter or as below , and book early.    Many thanks.

The group has enjoyed a number of long distance trails in the last few years.

We finished the White Horse Trail in 2005, at the end of a sunny day walking, with the coach stopping in the same lay-by that we started the series from.  A few bottles of wine were uncorked and fruit juices opened in celebration.

The 2006-8  long distance path was  the Wessex Ridgeway Path.  Marlborough to Lyme Regis.
Over the  3 years 06-08 we have  walked the Wessex Ridgeway, from Marlborough in Wiltshire to Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast. The early part of the trail was in similar countryside to that which we enjoyed on the White Horse Trail, although mainly on different paths. Thereafter,  walking was in parts of Wiltshire and Dorset that we are unable to reach on the normal Sunday walks. The first 3 stages were in 2006 , followed by 4 in 2007 and 4 in 2008.  The individual stages ranged from 10 to 16 miles.

Plans for a further Long Distance Path series for 2009 on, are under discussion. Watch this space.

Ramblers' charitable status means that we must at least break even on social events and outings. To ensure that the series is viable we need to receive advance bookings and payment  . In the event that bookings fall short of the minimum for break even we may have to cancel, in which case cheques will be returned.

Previous Coach pick arrangements have been typically:

Morning pick-ups by the coach; 08.00 Bitterne Sainsbury’s, 08.15 Southampton Central station (note by the Spar shop & Frobisher House), 08.30 Totton Woolworths.
